The World is Made of Content

by Capital A on June 13, 2009

We need a way to manage it. Our content, that is. Our staggering, baffling amount of content that we process, consume, internalize, redistribute each and every day. Uploading by FTP is hardly practical for anyone who updates at a good clip, and even blogs may be found lacking.

Obviously there is contention on this subject, and everyone’s ideal systems would be different, and have different reasons why it’s unrealistic. My ideal content management system, however, would be:

  • Automated
  • Modular
  • Intermediary
  • Able to process multiple channels
  • Just looking at those bullet points as I wrote them, it’s terribly clear why this subject is somewhat intractable. I barely feel like it’s worth the trouble to explain exactly what I mean by each of those, and everyone has such personal applications of their CMS that generalizing seems a futile exercise. There will be more on this subject in the near future, however, including both explanations and solutions (of sorts,) I promise.
